Diarmuid's Download of the Week: Are you Listening Photoshop users?

Here's my weekly recommended download. It’s the turn of Paint.NET. This is one of the best free alternatives to Adobe Photoshop. It has all the basic features you would expect from a graphic design application, and a whole lot more. I did give GIMP a go for a while, but thought it was complicated compared to Photoshop. Paint.NET is much easier to use and has a good user interface. Tutorials are widely available and it offers support for plug-ins. It works on Windows XP, VISTA and with a little help Linux. I’m actually not sure about Macs. Additionally it featured in PC World’s top 20 products of 2007.

Prolog Text Based Adventure Game

I have uploaded my 3rd Year Knowledge Representation project. It's a text based adventure game designed in amzi prolog. The game is not mainstream and is for learning intentions only. It's a platform for learning a bit of Artifical Intelligence. This will be useful if your doing a project similar to this. You will need to download amzi to run and play the game.

Update: Link is now down, so here's the source code
And if you haven't guessed you need to take out the html br's. Don't know why they keep popping up!

The game and source can be downloaded here.
A walkthrough is also available.

For those people who are expected to be entertained rather than put to sleep, here's a picture I found in my inbox. (I finished my exams last week, so it cracks me up)

Diarmuidos - The Nutritional Choice

Check out Seán's awesome picture, I might have to use it as a logo! Just wished I'd thought of it first. I hope to be putting up my text based adventure game designed in Amzi Prolog sometime this week. If you have no idea what a text based game is try this one: Pacman. Its fantastic, well as much fun as text games tend to be.

Will have the Prolog source code for my game. Very nerdy stuff indeed.

DOWNLOADS - CCleaner (It Rocks)

I do like scouting the Internet for free but yet useful applications/programs. I have quite a few in my collection, and decided to share the best ones with you.

I would like my fist download recommendation ever on my blog to be CCleaner. This neat little free program, cleans up your hard drive by removing all the crap you might be unaware still exists. Also it has a nice registry cleaner. Meaning you don't have to mess around with it. Good for all computer users, novice to expert.

I've Become a Blogster

Hi everybody....

Well as some of you may be aware my brother has had a rather entertaining blog going since 2006. I actually find it vastly humorous and interesting. (Where's that €20 Seán?)

Being completely sick of Bebo and Facebook, I've decided to take my brother's advice and start a blog for myself. Now I'm definitely not a writer and in fairness there's no way I can compete with my brother's wit, sarcasm and ability to find monolithic (bigger) words in the dictionary than I can. Mostly in part so I don't have to directly compete with him I've decided to blog about what I do best: a nerd blog. Being very much into IT and currently studying it (final year), I have a few nice projects and some source code that other students might find useful. Hell I might just recommend stuff and put up silly videos I like from Youtube. Maybe Seán will give me some pointers on how to make it more entertaining.

I plan on just doing this when I have a bit of time on my hands – When my other half is getting ready to go out or like now when I'm in the middle of my exams. For when I have nothing better to do!
